Over 35,000 BRICKLIVE fans stream into the NEC
2017 saw the popularity of BRICKLIVE hit new heights as sell out crowds poured through the door.
The Birmingham leg of the BRICKLIVE tour has always been a popular event but this year’s brick-filled fiesta drew record crowds into the NEC. The four-day event witnessed masses of fans eagerly queuing every morning to get in and experience loads of exciting new and improved features.
The level of interactive experiential attractions had certainly been increased and this was apparent the minute you walked through the door. The all-new Warrior Bots arena boomed and crashed away as visitors battled radio controlled, LEGO® built robots against each other, much to the delight of the on-looking crowds. Fans revelled in the improved LEGO Star Wars zone that was surrounded by plinths packed with official sets, including the biggest ever set the UCS Millennium Falcon, which was built live at the event in front of fans.
All the favourite features were present, including brick pits, Ninjago zone and the ever-popular race ramps. The event was decorated throughout with giant sculptures, including selfie zones and iconic skyscrappers in the new architecture zone. Of these sculptures fans wondered in awe at the Bright Bricks Safari exhibit. Over 80 species of animals had been recreated in brick form, ranging from a 2.6 metre Bengal tiger to a 1.5tonne elephant. There was chance to get involved in building a giant LEGO® hippo, a guess the penguin game and a very entertaining ‘feed the frog’ experience.
Some of our visitors were lucky enough to meet the winners of Channel 4’s “Brick Masters” Steve Guinness and Nate Dias who made a special appearance with their fellow finalists.
Fans enjoyed a great day out playing, building, creating and shopping in what was surely the BRICK LIVE event of the year.
